'Go Ape' is a high wire forest adventure which will be open to the public in time for the Easter Holidays next year.
It is the first course to open in Wales, creating 15 full and part time jobs.
The course is made up of rope bridges, trapezes and zip slides through the tree canopy.
Work has already started on the project and the equipment, shipped into Port Talbot from France, will be installed over the coming months.
To take part on the adventure trail, people will be fitted with a harness and will undergo a 30 minute training session. There is a series of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and zip wires exploring the forest at heights of between 18 and 55 feet. The course takes two to three hours to complete.
The 'Go Ape' company works closely with conservationists and arboriculturists to protect the forests and the structures are designed to allow trees to grow unrestricted.
"Increasing the range of activities will attract more people to visit Margam Park," says Council Leader, Derek Vaughan.
"This new private investment is excellent news. Margam Park is the jewel in the crown of Neath Port Talbot and we want it to be used by everyone.
"Tourism is important to the county borough and this major attraction will provide adventures for local people and visitors alike."
Neath Port Talbot Borough Council - 21 August 2008
