The Train One, Save Many Appeal is a national RNLI appeal which aims to raise a 10million endowment fund to secure crew training costs into the future. Crew training is critical, as it is essential to maintain the highest standards of training to support the volunteer crews who are prepared to risk life and limb to help others. But with crew training costing around 20,000 for each station around the UK per year, it is also a major financial outlay for the RNLI, which is funded entirely by voluntary donations.
Covering the three stations of Swansea Bay Port Talbot, Mumbles and Horton / Port Eynon, a small group of business people was created within Swansea Bay to raise a minimum of 50K towards the Appeal. Hard working and entrepreneurial, the fundraising group has organised a number of events and has so far raised in excess of 35K towards the target. If you are interested in helping the Swansea Bay group, please contact David Davies via davidpldavies@btinternet.com
The next appeal fundraising event, billed as Ascot comes to Gower is a Ladies Day on Sunday 14th September in the beautiful surroundings of Penmaen House. Organisers say it will be an exciting racing experience as race-goers will have the opportunity to buy horses and back them over six races. Tickets (20) include a welcome drink, premium bbq, cold fork buffet, and bars and can be purchased from RNLI shops or by calling 01792 371251
Later in the month, a Ladies Lunch and Fashion Show will take place at the Village Hotel, SA1, on Monday 29th September. Tickets for this (priced 20) can be obtained from this years High Sheriff, Mrs Pam Spender on 01639 898997.
