Evenings Out in Swansea Bay

Swansea city is fast becoming one of the UK's most talked about locations, be it for an evening out with family or drinks with friends. From pub grub to exclusive menus, ale to fine wine or a little bit of live music, Swansea teems with nocturnal tradition and boasts over 100 pubs and clubs.

The Café Quarter, centred mainly round Wind Street, has a vibrant evening scene with pubs, bars, nightclubs and a £13 million state of the art casino which along with the expected tables and roulette wheels, offers live floor shows and bands.

Wind Street is the place to party and a prime area for bar-hopping before heading to one of the many nightclubs located nearby or along the legendry Kingsway.

In Swansea Bay we love our ‘live’ music scene and you'll find gigs taking place every night. From rock to modern jazz and country and western to the blues - in dedicated clubs, namely Swansea Jazz Land in St James Crescent, cool pubs like the Uplands Tavern or hip cafés such as Monkey Café in Castle Street – you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Swansea boasts a whole raft of venues to enjoy live performances - the aptly-named Grand Theatre for opera, visiting repertory companies, pantomime and musicals; The Dylan Thomas Theatre incorporating Swansea Little Theatre and The Dylan Thomas Theatre Academy, is a community arts venue that caters for all types of productions; Taliesin Arts Centre at Swansea University's campus in Singleton Park stages plays, music and dance performances; the Brangwyn Hall, located within the Guildhall, holds regular concerts, especially around Swansea Festival time when orchestras such as the London Symphony and choirs from around the world perform. The Brangwyn Hall’s acoustics are fantastic and the famous Brangwyn panels adorning the walls make it a really special occasion.

Just a short drive from the city Pontardawe Arts Centre has gained a reputation for providing high calibre programmes, from classical music to drama and dance, literature and children's theatre to blues and world music; something for everyone to enjoy. The Princess Royal Theatre in Port Talbot, another impressive theatre, also stages productions all year round.

Heading east, the Lyric Theatre in Carmarthen is an historic building that has recently been brought up-to-date with a major £1.5 million refurbishment. As well as breath-taking ballet and full-scale stage productions, The Lyric can now be converted into an intimate cabaret venue with candle-lit tables. Llanelli’s Theatre Elli comprises three theatres – two dedicated to movies and the other reserved for live performances. Ammanford’s Miners Theatre not only stages plays and shows but also offers dance and drama classes.

Eating out in Swansea Bay is a treat. You’ll find fabulous restaurants overlooking the sea, nestled in the rolling hills or dotted around countryside towns and villages. From themed restaurants in Swansea city’s Café Quarter to secluded countryside pubs and restaurants offering traditional Welsh dishes or tastes of Europe, Asia and beyond.

So whether it’s a meal, leisurely drinks with friends, opera, rock, folk or jazz, catching up with latest film releases or a night at the theatre you’ll never be short something to do any evening of the week.
