Swansea Bay’s winning combination of vibrant city, endless coastline and beautiful countryside provides the backdrop and inspiration for a wide variety of events throughout the year.
There are literary, arts, music and film festivals, as well as innumerable concerts, performances, readings and exhibitions. The region’s many museums, arts centres and even the grounds of historic castles and stately homes provide the perfect setting for musical events from opera and classical through to dance music and jazz. Carnivals, country shows, craft fairs and events in the numerous nature and country parks feature frequently, particularly during the summer months. Swansea’s MAS Carnival, Margam County Show, The Gower Show and Carmarthenshire County Show are the biggest, but most towns and villages also hold their own diverse shows, festivals and carnivals too...and visitors can be assured of a very warm welcome.
The multitude of activities to be enjoyed across the region are supported by many sporting and active events, such as the South Wales Boat Show, mountain biking trials and competitions in Afan Forest Park and even the famous Mumbles raft race! The winter months and Christmastime are just the excuse Swansea Bay needs to stage events with an extra bit of sparkle. Swansea city’s ‘Waterfront Winterland’, with its fantastic outdoor ice skating rink, giant wheel and traditional fairground rides is a firm winter favourite, but street entertainment, outdoor Christmas markets and late night shopping across Swansea Bay all add to the festive feel.
