To find a job in Swansea Bay so that you can take advantage of the great quality of life on offer here, then it’s a great idea to check out the major employers in the area.
Like many parts of Wales, the public sector is a major player on the job scene. The Swansea Bay Region includes the local authorities of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire and there is strong integration between the three individual authorities making it easy to live in any part of the region and work in another, all within a short drive time.
Other key public sector employers in the region include the NHS, Land Registry, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA).There are many Further Education and Higher Education establishments to be found here, including Swansea University, Swansea Metropolitan University and Trinity College Carmarthen. Swansea Bay is also home to Grwp Gwalia, a housing assocation who are also big employers and worth checking out.

In the private sector, you could consider Admiral – regularly voted by its staff as being among the top 100 best employers in the UK – or look for opportunities with other household names such as IBM, Land Securities Group, Fujitsu, EDS and Amazon. Media opportunities can be found locally with South West Wales Media or The Wave & Swansea Sound.
There are many online sites and recruitment agencies in the region. Local newspaper, The South Wales Evening Post, publishes its jobs pages on a Wednesday, whilst weekly regional papers also include employment opportunities – the Llanelli Star and the Carmarthen Journal, published in Carmarthenshire on a Wednesday. If you want to live in Swansea Bay, but can’t quite find the right opportunity, then it’s worth noting that Wales’ capital city, Cardiff, is less than an hour away along the M4 and is well served by regular bus and train services from within the region.
