Swansea Bay has an excellent range of independent schools at Primary and Secondary level across the region. These include Oakleigh House and Ffynone House – both in the Uplands area of Swansea as well as Craig-y-Nos and St. Michaels.
Oakleigh House School
Oakleigh House School is a co-educational independent primary school taking pupils from 3years -11 years. Part of the ‘Cognita Group of Schools’, Oakleigh House also operates as a preparatory school that feeds into Ffynone House School.
Situated in the Uplands area of Swansea, not far from the city centre, Oakleigh House has a separate nursery department, a multi-purpose hall, modern dining facilities, a computer suite and a range of specialist classrooms.
Oakleigh School’s educational programme includes Nursery, Foundation (Years 1&2), Years 3&4 and Years 5&6.
They also offer many extracurricular activities including Sports, Orchestra and Chess and additional classes in Speech, Music, Drama and Ballet.
The school has plenty of outdoor space for the children to play and a nature area for them to explore. Classes are small and a dedicated team of staff are well qualified to deal with children across the age range.

Pupils from Oakleigh House School can enter Ffynone House at the end of Year 6 and there is a programme of transition events in place to ensure the move up to the secondary school is eagerly anticipated by each pupil.

Ffynone House School
Ffynone House School
Ffynone House School opened in September 1973 by founder Mr Marshall David, a local businessman who wished to extend opportunities for independent education in the Swansea area.
The school occupies a prime site in the residential area of Uplands, Swansea, close to all the city's facilities and amenities. Ffynone House takes its name from the Welsh word "ffynnon" meaning "spring" and a natural water source runs alongside the building.
In its thirty-eight year history the school has earned a reputation for academic excellence. Examination results have been consistently high, both at GCSE and A level. Pupils in 2011 continued to achieve outstanding GCSE results with 100% pass rate and 97% of the grades awarded were A*-C. A number of pupils achieved A* and A across the board. In Chemistry, German, Latin and Additional Maths all require a particular mention, where every student gained a grade B or above, with the majority at A to A*.
The school has a focus on developing the whole child and its academic timetable is complemented by dedicated pastoral care and a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
Since September 2009, the school has provided exclusively secondary education from ages 11-18 whilst recent investment has seen improved facilities and opportunities for pupils, including an ICT suite and enhanced Sixth Form accommodation.
The school holds regular Open Days and Scholarship events. For further information and enquiries please visit: www.ffynonehouseschool.co.uk.
