A Luxury cruise liner is set to leave Swansea after a £20 million refit in the city’s docks.

Formerly known as the Astoria the 18,591 tonne Saga Pearl II will be leaving Swansea for sea trials next week before heading to Southampton. The Saga Pearl will be able to take 446 passengers served by 269 officers and crew.

Paul Green, head of communications for the ship’s owner Saga Group, said the ship is being delivered on time, working with crews in Swansea had been a fantastic experience. He said “The people of Wales have been very welcoming and are glad that the £20 million refit has helped regenerate the docks.

“ I’m sure Swansea has a Bright future if the quality of work is replicated."

“This was the first time the docks had been used for such a large project for more than a decade and our confidence in the quality and skills available to us in Wales has been repaid handsomely.”

Work in Swansea by contractor Harris Pye saw the creation of balcony cabins, upgrading the show lounge, spa and two swimming pools.
