Bracelet Bay near Swansea named in Top 10 for beach-combing

A holiday cottage rental company, working together with the Marine Conservation Society, has picked the top 10 beaches in the Uk for beach-combing... and Bracelet Bay, near Swansea, has been included in the list.

The beaches were selected based on reports received and geographical features, including rock pools, which make beachcombing more successful.  Nominations were also put forward by holidaymakers visiting the nation's coastline over the summer, asking them to report their most unusual findings.

The list was unveiled by BBC Coast presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff who said " Beaches are a great place to spend a day with the family outdoors and beachcombing is a fun way to make exciting discoveries and tap into your sense of adventure."

The company compiling the list, cottages4you, partnered with the Marine Conservation Society in order to help MSC record marine wildlife sightings such as jellyfish, which can help to further understand the ecology of the nation's coastal creatures.

Mumbles Lighthouse & Bracelet Bay

Just south of Swansea Bay and on the south side of the Gower Peninsular, Bracelet Bay is a small rocky bay surrounded by limestone cliffs.  The bay is backed by a bank of pebbles and features lots of rock pools to explore.  As the tide drops, sand is also exposed on the beach. Lifeguards patrol during peak summer months.  There is also a large car park above the beach.

The report could also have mentioned the fantastic setting of Bracelet Bay, with Mumbles Lighthouse at its tip.  When the tide is out, it is possible to easily reach the lighhouse on foot although visitors need to pay attention to the tides.  Bracelet is one of many beaches around the Gower where beachcombing - and many other shore and water based activities - can be enjoyed.
