A total of 98.7% of Welsh Joint Examination Committee GCSE exam entries in Swansea resulted in passes (grades A*-G), 69.1% achieved the higher grades of A* to C. The highest grades of A* and A were awarded to 20% of Swansea entries.
Some subjects saw more than 90% of entrants achieve the higher grades of A*-C. These included Sociology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Information Technology.
In the key core subjects of English Language and Mathematics, the Swansea overall results compare well to 2008 and national results.
For English Language, the Swansea results were A*-A 13.5%, A*-C 66.0% and A*-G 99.2%.
For Mathematics, the Swansea results were A*-A 21.6%, A*-C 61.8% and A*-G 98%
Pupils in Carmarthenshire have also achieved excellent results in their WJEC "GCSE" examinations. 7.6% of pupils were awarded the highest possible grade of (A*) compared to the Wales average of 6.2%. 21.0% of pupils also were awarded the highest two grades (A* and A). 67.8% achieved grades A* - C. Grades A* - G were achieved by 99.1%
Once again Neath Port Talbot schools have secured outstanding performances at GCSE. The WJEC has confirmed that more than 69% of Neath Port Talbot GCSE entries were awarded passes at the higher grades A*-C. More than 17% of qualifications were at A* and A grade. Overall, 99% of Neath Port Talbot entries gained passes at grades A*-G, which also exceeds the national average and is a further improvement on last year’s performance.
Ffynone House pupils celebrate A grade GCSE success – again!
It was another bumper year of exam success as pupils at Ffynone House School in Uplands celebrated today after receiving their GCSE exam results.
The school received an outstanding 93% A*-C pass rate at GCSE. The school reinforced its reputation for outstanding achievement in the sciences with 96.4% A*-B pass rates in Chemistry and Biology. In the key subjects of English Language, English Literature and Mathematics the school also received outstanding results.
