New affordable homes on former brewery site

Local housing provider, Grŵp Gwalia, has been granted planning permission to build twelve new homes on the former Buckley’s Brewery site in Llanelli.

The development, which is the penultimate phase of the regeneration of the whole site, will include the refurbishment of an existing building as well as the new build of a four storey apartment block to provide a total of 12 one bedroom affordable apartments.

The existing building, once the Brewery offices, will be renovated to provide four spacious apartments along the riverside walkway. The new-build element will house 8 apartments, some with work from home facilities to cater for a wide range of lifestyles.

Stuart Davies, Executive Director of Social and Affordable Housing Development, “This latest scheme is Phase 3 of Gwalia’s redevelopment of the former Buckley’s Brewery site to deliver a high quality residential development which continues to support the regeneration of Llanelli.”

All the new homes will be built with high levels of energy efficiency, decreasing the carbon footprint of the development and reducing tenants’ energy bills.

Work is due to start on this development in early 2011.
