New homes development at SA1

SA1 Swansea Waterfront continues to attract new investment with the announcement today that a Neath construction company has acquired a prime site to build fifty homes.

Hale Construction acquired the 2.2acre site from the Welsh Assembly Government to build a new residential development of houses – the first family sized town houses to be built on SA1. The houses will be built to Code level 4 meaning they are warmer and more economical homes to run, a full level above current planning standards.

Ieuan Wyn Jones, Deputy Minister for the Economy and Transport, described the latest investment as a strong mark of confidence in SA1.

“The challenging economic climate has seen many developments put on hold so I am pleased the Assembly Government has helped facilitate this investment which will provide a significant boost for the construction industry during difficult trading conditions.

“It is certainly a mark of confidence in SA1 while the decision to build houses will also appeal to families and help create a balanced community which has been one of our main targets when developing this dynamic new quarter in Swansea.”

The new development, which has a dockside frontage, is located to the south east of the Village Hotel complex. The scheme has planning permission for 30 homes in phase 1 and the contractor is expected to be onsite in January 2011.

The news follows the recent opening of the £9m development on SA1 that includes a 132 bedroom Premier Inn, a Beefeater Grill restaurant and a Tesco Express store.

Two building projects by Hale Construction, which is based in Neath, recently scooped the all Wales awards and were then selected for the UK finals of the recent Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Awards.

Jonathan Hale of Hale Construction said: “It’s a really exciting scheme to be involved in, there seems to be a lot of excitement about the site and with our track record in high quality homes we think the scheme will be a great success for all involved.”
