New interactive fitness zone in the LC

The LC, SwanseaThe LC in Oystermouth Road is set to launch the new iZone — which is described as a fun, interactive workout area aimed at 11 to 15-year-olds.

Said to be the first of its kind in Wales, it is adjacent to the LC's main gym.

The concept is designed to capture the interest secondary school students have in the latest computer technology, and use this to promote an active lifestyle among the age group.

The iZone will feature the latest developments in interactive fitness technology, including Nintendo Wiis, dance mats, Expresso bikes and a Batak wall, and will also be available for existing gym members to use at no additional cost.

Many of the features also have the option for users to compete with others, recording top scores on a members -only leaderboard.

Ian Hamlet, general manager of the LC's health and fitness facilities, said: "We're delighted to be launching the iZone at the LC. It's an extremely innovative concept and we believe we're the first in Wales to create a youth- focussed interactive fitness zone on this scale.

"The great thing about the iZone is that whether you're a seasoned computer game user or completely new to the console, there is something for everyone — you can compete with friends, adults and the LC staff, or just take your time with some solo sessions before you get to grips with it.

"It's also a great deal of fun for anyone of any age or ability.

"Although we see the iZone as an area for people, especially younger adults, to enjoy there's also a serious message behind the LC's commitment to encouraging young people to stay active."

The Expresso bikes allow riders to personalise their experience over 30 virtual courses.

The Batak board has been used to test and improve the reactions of high performance drivers, highlighting the needs of spatial awareness, peripheral vision and motor reactions.
