A quarter of A-level results awarded in Wales this year were at the top A grade.
The overall pass rate (grades A-E) was the same as last year at 97.6 per cent, but the proportion of A grades rose from 24.1 per cent to 25 per cent.
There was a rise in the number of students sitting exams this year, up 4.3 per cent to 38,433. There was also a rise of more than 1,500 in students taking the Welsh baccalaureate advanced diploma.

Swansea College A and AS level results
Swansea College is celebrating an overall 99% pass rate at A Level, with 77% of these passes being at the higher grades of A-C. The overall pass rate at AS level was 87% with 59% of those passes being grades A-C.
Gorseinon College
Students have achieved an overall pass rate of 98.1% from a huge total of 1,500 subject sittings at A Level. Of these, 80.8 % were at grades A to C, with A grades reaching 30%. Out of the 45 subjects sat, 29 had the perfect 100% pass rate.
Ffynone House School
Pupils exam results 100% A-E Passes with 88% A-C Passes.
Coleg Sir Gâr
Students at Coleg Sir Gâr are celebrating another set of outstanding A level results.
A-C passes at the college are the best ever at 84% with A-E grades again outstanding at 99%. 34 out of 38 subjects received a 100% pass rate, with 13 subject areas celebrating a 100% pass rate at A-C.
Neath Port Talbot schools have once again excelled with their A level results.
Students and teachers in Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and St. Joseph’s in Port Talbot, the two schools in Neath Port Talbot offering post 16 education, are being congratulated for their achievement in producing some excellent results.
Pass rates at both A and AS levels were once again above national average.
The percentage of students securing the higher A-C grades has increased by over 2%.
The percentage of WJEC Advanced Level examinations passed at grades A-E was 99%, with over a quarter of students attaining the highest A grade.
