Swansea Met Launches new Network

Swansea Met Townhill Campus

Townhill Campus

A unique network that brings together the diverse disciplines of art, science and technology will be launched at Swansea Metropolitan University next week.

SATnet (Science, Art and Technology Network), part of the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Centre (CIRIC) based at Swansea Met, is to launch next Wednesday 17th March, 1pm until 3pm, at the University’s Dynevor Centre for Art, Design and Media.

SATnet will focus on building new networks across the usually distinct disciplines of the visual arts, the sciences, and technology sectors. It will facilitate interaction between creative arts academics from Swansea Met (and its project partners), and Welsh science and technology-based companies within the convergence areas of Wales.

The launch event will provide an opportunity for local businesses to find out more about the project and offer them a chance to network with academics and other businesses.

CIRIC Co Director James Moxey said: “Much debate about the role of creativity in academia, society and the business leaves out the importance of connectivity. SATnet is a response to this. It allows connections to be made between artists, scientists and business for the creation of exciting and innovative work. We’re looking forward to the outcomes of this vibrant network.”

For further information regarding SATnet or if you would like to attend the event please call 01792 481241 or email ciric@smu.ac.uk
