City and County of Swansea

As the major employer and decision-making body in the city, Swansea Council is at the heart of the city. Responsible for the area’s education, social services and housing, regeneration and environment, the Council positively affects thousands of lives in many different ways.

The Council supports a population of 225,500 across an area of 378 square kilometres (146 square miles), about 2% of the area of Wales. Extending from Rhossili Down at the western edge of the Gower Peninsula to Kilvey Hill, Crymlyn Bog and the slopes of the Drummau Mountain on the eastern border with Neath Port Talbot; and from Mumbles Head and the sweep of Swansea Bay in the south to the 1200 ft. ridge of Mynydd y Gwair overlooking the Amman Valley in the north.

The Council has many key objectives including improving opportunities for children and young people, to promote the Welsh Language and culture in Swansea, to improve the 'look and feel' of our city centre and local shopping areas, to be environmentally sensitive and provide a sustainable future for the City and to lead the regeneration of local communities in Swansea.

Chris Holley, Leader of Swansea Council said, "I am very pleased to welcome the creation of Swansea Bay Futures. Swansea Council is excited to be a major supporter of this initiative.

"Swansea Bay Futures demonstrates a unity of purpose among the people of the city to promote our wonderful city on a world stage. Moving forwards, the Council’s support for Swansea Bay Futures needs to include full co-operation and linking, by using the new Swansea brand wherever possible, sharing information & resources and making use of all the opportunities available to us to spread the word. We are encouraging all staff to think within their own departments about the opportunities and the links that can be made.

"With so much going on within the Council, a link between our activity and Swansea Bay Futures will ensure a much greater marketing push. There is so much to say about our city. Those of us lucky enough to live here already know what a brilliant place Swansea is to live and work. Swansea Bay Futures will ensure that our voice will be heard further afield and that will help generate international interest in the unique opportunities this city has to offer."
