Castell Howell Foods Limited was formed in 1988 and is Wales’s largest independent catering supplier, employing over 320 staff. The company operates a wholesale delivery service from its purpose built Cross Hands distribution hub along with a wholesale cash and carry store in Carmarthen. Castell Howell also operates depots in Merthyr and Avonmouth, and is opening a further depot in Chirk in January 2009 to service its North Wales customer base. It aims to provide a one stop shop and first class customer service based on outstanding reliability, flexibility, choice
and personal care.
The company supplies over 4,000 customers and stocks a range of over 8000 food products, from frozen to fresh and ambient and also stocks a wide range of non food catering items. Castell Howell promotes Welsh sourced products and is constantly adding to its range of Welsh producers many of which are True Taste award winners. It also operates a butchery operation at Carmarthen and produces sandwich fillings and cooked meats under the Celtic Cuisine label. The Company is a partner with Wynnstay Plc and the Welsh Meat Company in the Celtic Pride premium beef scheme.
