IBM is a key partner to business, academia and government in Wales, and Swansea in particular.
For many years, IBM has been committed to assisting business development in the region, and in recognition of this, Richard Jones, IBM Public Sector Leader, sits on the Board of Directors of Swansea Bay Futures, to drive IBM’s contribution, and apply business insight and transformation expertise.
IBM’s involvement in the area includes:
A key role as DVLA’s strategic partner on a 10 year business transformation agenda to encourage innovation and accelerate the pace of change across the agency. This involves an IBM consulting partner sitting on their board of directors, bringing business and technology innovation and insight to their ongoing strategy.
In a collaboration between Swansea University, the Welsh Assembly and IBM, the Swansea Institute for Life Sciences (ILS) will create the 'Deep Computing Visualisation Centre for Medical Applications'. This Centre will drive new solutions for healthcare treatment, personalised medicine and disease control.
IBM is a collaboration partner in the Technium CAST (Centre for Advanced Software Technology) facility in Swansea which was announced in May 2006. The £17.8million project has been established to nurture future generations of companies involved in advanced software and visualisation technology, and attract innovative developers to the region.
Cardiff University selected IBM to deliver the Modern IT Working Environment (MWE), the university’s largest transformational program to date. The solution will allow researchers, staff and students with individually tailored, secure access to information, applications and business processes.
Other IBM collaborations include the Technium CAST facility located at Parc Menai in Bangor, North Wales, and the Cardiff University Brain Repair Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) at Cardiff University.
At IBM, we strive to lead in the invention, development and manufacture of the industry's most advanced information technologies, including computer systems, software, storage systems and microelectronics. We translate these advanced technologies into value for our customers through our professional solutions, services and consulting businesses worldwide and we look forward to a continuing successful partnership in the Swansea area.
