Welsh Government

The Welsh Government is responsible for most of the issues of day-to-day concern to the people of Wales, including the economy. Their support for business is guided by their Economic Renewal Programme which aims to provide a better environment and infrastructure for business. Nine key sectorshave been identified as having a significant impact on the Welsh economy now and in the future and an exceptional package of support is available for all companies in these sectors, whatever their size. They are:

  • Advanced Materials & Manufacturing
  • Construction
  • Creative Industries
  • Energy & Environment
  • Financial & Professional Services
  • Food and Farming
  • ICT
  • Life Sciences
  • Tourism

Each sector has their own panel. They are made up of private sector business people, who will give advice on opportunities within the key sectors. They are to use their private sector success and experience to help the Welsh Government identify the best opportunities for business growth.

Particular support is also offered for companies looking to make significant investment move into Wales, whatever their sector.

Every SME in Wales has access to a range of support services and resources, including diagnosing skills training needs, business skills workshops and training, help to tender for public sector contracts and property services to help find an appropriate base.

The Welsh Government also offers repayable finance to assist businesses development which is interest free and can be repaid over periods of up to 7 years.
