Mynydd y Gwair wind farm

Mynydd y Gwair wind farm is being developed and constructed by Innogy Renewables UK Ltd. one of Wales’s largest investors in renewable energy generation.  Mynydd y Gwair wind farm will be Swansea’s first large scale renewables project and is located a few miles north of the city on common land just beyond Pontarddulais.  The 16 turbine scheme will have an installed capacity of 33 MW, helping to secure our energy supplies and tackle climate change.  This £52 million capital project is one of biggest investments currently being made in Swansea.  innogy is actively engaging with the regional supply chain and hopeful that contracts can be placed locally where possible.

Following some successful preliminary site investigations, innogy intends to begin constructing the wind farm early in the New Year.  Multi-million pound contracts will be placed with the principal contractors, which includes the enabling and civils works, very shortly.  In addition, a community investment fund will also be established with money available for local good causes for the entire lifetime of the operational wind farm, which will be up to 25 years.

Meanwhile, in neighbouring Carmarthenshire, innogy has also started construction on Brechfa Forest West wind farm, a 28 turbine scheme.
